Happy 4th of July

Above – Robb, Alo, Kando & Akuch on the ferry to Coronado (yesterday).

Below – Brothers at the Embarcadero water park. What a great place for kids to play.

Here’s a little gem that’ll put a smile on your face.

Blogged on Amma’s iPhone & iMac wishing everyone a fun and safe 4th of July with LOVE!

San Francisco Zoo

Photos from Robb & Akuch taken earlier this week at the San Francisco Zoo. Word has it they’re driving down today and will arrive later this evening.

And Sparty … Amma succeeds in wearing him out again. He was totally passed out when we pulled up to the house at 2pm after gymnastics and he slept until 5! I put him on the bed and took his shoes off, he opened his eyes briefly to take a look at his surroundings and then out he went, gymnastics sticker on his foot and all.

Here’s Ron hard at work …Looks like a tough dress code.

Below – Can you guess where Alo and Kando are?

The future’s so bright…

This long video (over 8 minutes) gives an insight on what goes on during gymnastics class – bars, trampoline, free time, races & bubbles …

It makes me tired too …

Today – OB Street Fair!

Skyping

Above – Skyping last night with Robb, Akuch, Alo & Kando. Everyone seemed happy and it was nice to hear Akuch’s giggling.

Alo is showing off the dinosaur he painted blue and purple.

In this video, Kando waves, says Pappa (maybe), Alo becomes bashful and hides behind the couch but then finally sings happy birthday to Pappa.

Ernie had to take a bath and was drying, which explains why he’s not in the photos or video. Evidently Robb left the body oil on Alo’s dresser and while no one was looking, Alo lotioned up all his stuffed animals and other critters (I’ve been in his room and there are a lot of them!). I suppose that called for Robb having to “Clean up, clean up, everybody everywhere.” This reminds me of the time I went to Janni’s house to either visit or babysit and little John, probably the same age as Alo is now at the time, had dumped an entire jar of baby powder all over his bedroom. It was a mess!

Robb was telling us about the cover they got for the wagon so he sent some photos to show how cool it is. He said it was 95 there yesterday, so having that shade must be really nice for the kids.

Sweetness …

If you’re counting down with me, they’ll be in San Diego in less than two weeks. I can’t wait to see them again.

Hornet’s Nest Update

The good news is the hornet’s nests were cleared out yesterday. Two of them, at least. The bad news is I was told there’s still one up there but it’s not interfering with the installation. After the man in the white overalls and scary head covering left, the guys saw more hornets flying into what appeared to be another nest, not too close to where they’re working so they didn’t have to stop again.

Look … there are still a couple live ones. And look at all the eggs.

The solar guys were able to get back on the roof and get moving on the solar panel installation.

The above photo was taken mid-day yesterday, and the below photo was taken mid-day today. The panels are going up. They should be done tomorrow.

Today the solar guys were here (some working inside and some working outside), Maria was here cleaning, we had the grandkids, and the alley is being torn up and all the tractors and tractor parts, piles of dirt and big concrete sewer parts are taking up all the parking places on our street. It was kind of a busy day. Luckily for me, Sparty passed out in the car on the way home from gymnastics and didn’t wake up when I took him out of the car and put him in bed leaving me to practice with Maya watching a movie (among other things) in the yoga studio with me. As you can see from the photo below, however, my practice didn’t go along without some obstacles … [In Gomukhasana with Ziggy making himself at home on my lap.]

The adults had fun too!

There are other photos shared by others I will share on another blog. But now, off to “the real job.”

Sand, Cars, Dummies & Food

Above & Below – The cutest thing ever.

If you’re not on FaceBook, then you missed seeing Alo’s car collection. Do not fear, here are a couple photos. If you were to ask Alo (probably also if you don’t ask him) he’d be happy to tell you the type and color of every one of them.

He spends much of his spare time (when he’s not reciting past and present U.S. presidents’ names) playing with these cars. In fact, he doesn’t usually go anywhere without toting one or more of these with him.

The other day on our walk we came across these dummies and other things laying around at Sunset Cliffs. We asked the guys dressed in what appeared to be military suits what they were doing. Come to find out, they’d traveled from Maryland to work with the Chula Vista Fire Department rescue team. We didn’t stick around to watch, but they were preparing to toss these dummies off the cliff and then repel to “rescue” them. See Bear was interested too.

Let’s talk food. Why? For no reason really. Just thought you’d like to see what I had for lunch yesterday – St. Germain Yogurt (organic and natural – plain flavor) with fresh organic strawberries, blackberries and raspberries with a Cosmic Cranberry Kombucha. This has become one of my favorite lunches, mainly because it’s easy and delicious.

Then there was dinner. Bruce does most of the shopping at OB People’s Food Co-Op and on his last trip be brought home from the bulk bin a baggie of “Organic Chili Carnival” which was a medley of red kidney beans, black beans, red chili beans, pinto beans, green lentils, red lentils and pearled barley. He claimed the tag on the bulk bin said “all you have to do is add 1 cup to 4 cups boiling water and soak, then cook for 2 ½ hours.” Nothing else. Supposedly this would turn into a delicious soup. Hmm, I thought while looking at the bag of only assorted dried beans. Doesn’t this need spices or something to make it taste good? No, he said. That’s all the tag said. Luckily he took a photo of the tag which I looked at and with my keen eyesight (glasses on, of course) found the part he didn’t read “Add spices, veggies, sauces ….” So, I added spices, veggies  (onions, carrots, celery, potatoes) and sauces and with some sharp cheddar cheese and Red Rooster Hot Sauce sprinkled on top, it was delicious! It wasn’t a chili, but more of a “mixed bean veggie soup.” I think I’ll have left overs for dinner tonight, and probably tomorrow night and the next night, and maybe even the next night too …

To Alo who may be checking in to see what I’ve blogged today: Hi little buddy!

More from the Homefront

Above – Robb & Kando at Tilden Park

Below – Akuch & Alo also at Tilden Park

Lilli with her mom, Sandra celebrating Sandra’s birthday. Very nice people.

Here’s Sparty. He’s saying “cheese.” After music class he runs over to and climbs onto this little green chair for me to put his shoes on. He’s loving music class these days. It took a couple months, but I think he’s finally hooked!

Back at home on the little rocking horse.

This was last Wednesday – Maya  on the rings at gymnastics.

I think playing on the rope wall in my yoga studio helped this little monster to have no fear when it comes to hanging upside down. I think she’s fogotten about the time she let go of the ropes and landed on her head (oops) …

I’ve been really busy. I’ve got multiple projects going on at the house, plus independent contracting work and teaching. I’m in a 3-day workshop this weekend starting tomorrow morning, which is why I’m squeezing this post in between teaching two classes.

Blogged on Amma’s iPhone & iPad.

(You may wonder why I need two devices to do one post. Or maybe you never noticed. Since you asked (or wanted to anyways), because I take photos on my iPhone, it’s simpler to upload to WordPress (the App I use for bloggins) from the iPhone. But it’s easier to type whatever I have to say on my MacBook, iMac or iPad. WordPress has some obstacles I have to work around. So that’s just the way it is.)

Bits and Pieces

Above (I hope I didn’t already post this photo) – In Alandi, two women talking. Notice how the woman on the left is squatting and the one on the right is sitting on the ground, both comfortably and naturally, and they aren’t young!

In this photo it appears these three men are merely walking together.

At a closer look, the man on the left has his arm around the man in the middle, and the middle one and one on the right are holding hands. It could be the outside ones are helping the middle man out, but it’s not uncommon to see men showing this kind of public affection. It’s normal here.

This is how Nana relaxes while waiting for us to finish whatever it is we’re doing wherever he dropped us off. In this case, I was taking the “organized chaos” video at the bottom of this post.

Cow!

One last selfie with Cristy and Chris before they left last week.

Then someone walked by and offered to take a “real” photo.

These are the new shirts I had made with the www.obyoga.com logo on the back.

ManYee and her luggage squeezing in the elevator as she left a few days ago. Jill and I now know who made all the messes in the kitchen. Busted!

Winnie (from DC) and me at the Shraddhanjali.

On our way back from Alandi – views from the rickshaw.

Ya gotta love Nana! He knows how much I love animal sightings so he pulled over for me to get this up close & personal cow photo. I didn’t even have to ask him to.

Here’s the video I mentioned above. It’s a two minute video I took at a fairly busy intersection. I’ve been at this intersection when there’s been a lot more traffic than this, so this is actually fairly moderate.

This morning I took my final class with Geetaji. The time ran over, so the class ended up being 2 1/2 hours long. During class she worked with several people working toward upliftedness in Sirsasana (headstand), Adho Mukha Vrksasana (full arm balance/hand stand) and Swastikasana (seated cross-legged pose), then a very nice Pranayama session following a long Sarvangasana (shoulder stand). Most of the August westerners have already gone home, so there was plenty of space in class and in the practice hall this afternoon. I’m guessing Monday’s 7am Prashant’s class won’t be very full either. What a nice way to go out!

Geetaji: “I’m not just talking about taking the spine in. I’m talking about taking the skin to the muscle and the muscle to the bones.” “You have to work this way”

Tomorrow I plan on observing the 9am kids’ beginner class. I’ve really enjoyed following them this month. Then after having leftovers for lunch, Nana is picking Jill and me up for our last outing with him.
