Just Bloggin’

Above – Enjoying a sunset courtesy of Daddy.

I’m still (and always) trying to catch up on posting my photos. These are all pre-Halloween photos.

This is a pumpkin Alo made at preschool.Baking cookies for Alo’s preschool bake sale…

Winding down after bath time with a little snack of popcorn.Happiness is … DESSERT!

This one’s for KJ. Dukha!! I ordered the dukha online and used the olive oil you bought. Very good stuff.Ron said the kids wanted to fly a kite…

Next up, Alo plays a bunch of musical instruments, also pre-Halloween.

I’ll close with this …

A special PS to Grandma JoJo … this morning I was talking to the kids about getting to fly to Ohio to see their Gramma JoJo & Maya said “She’s my favorite.” I said what about you other Gramma? & she said “I love all of them.” It was so sweet.

Sand, Cars, Dummies & Food

Above & Below – The cutest thing ever.

If you’re not on FaceBook, then you missed seeing Alo’s car collection. Do not fear, here are a couple photos. If you were to ask Alo (probably also if you don’t ask him) he’d be happy to tell you the type and color of every one of them.

He spends much of his spare time (when he’s not reciting past and present U.S. presidents’ names) playing with these cars. In fact, he doesn’t usually go anywhere without toting one or more of these with him.

The other day on our walk we came across these dummies and other things laying around at Sunset Cliffs. We asked the guys dressed in what appeared to be military suits what they were doing. Come to find out, they’d traveled from Maryland to work with the Chula Vista Fire Department rescue team. We didn’t stick around to watch, but they were preparing to toss these dummies off the cliff and then repel to “rescue” them. See Bear was interested too.

Let’s talk food. Why? For no reason really. Just thought you’d like to see what I had for lunch yesterday – St. Germain Yogurt (organic and natural – plain flavor) with fresh organic strawberries, blackberries and raspberries with a Cosmic Cranberry Kombucha. This has become one of my favorite lunches, mainly because it’s easy and delicious.

Then there was dinner. Bruce does most of the shopping at OB People’s Food Co-Op and on his last trip be brought home from the bulk bin a baggie of “Organic Chili Carnival” which was a medley of red kidney beans, black beans, red chili beans, pinto beans, green lentils, red lentils and pearled barley. He claimed the tag on the bulk bin said “all you have to do is add 1 cup to 4 cups boiling water and soak, then cook for 2 ½ hours.” Nothing else. Supposedly this would turn into a delicious soup. Hmm, I thought while looking at the bag of only assorted dried beans. Doesn’t this need spices or something to make it taste good? No, he said. That’s all the tag said. Luckily he took a photo of the tag which I looked at and with my keen eyesight (glasses on, of course) found the part he didn’t read “Add spices, veggies, sauces ….” So, I added spices, veggies  (onions, carrots, celery, potatoes) and sauces and with some sharp cheddar cheese and Red Rooster Hot Sauce sprinkled on top, it was delicious! It wasn’t a chili, but more of a “mixed bean veggie soup.” I think I’ll have left overs for dinner tonight, and probably tomorrow night and the next night, and maybe even the next night too …

To Alo who may be checking in to see what I’ve blogged today: Hi little buddy!

Learn Something New

Above – Dinner consisting of a tuna melt using cinnamon raisin bread freshly baked by one of my students and friend, Sarah. Yummy.

Did you know that during the construction of Petco Park, the Padres offered fans the chance to purchase bricks outside the concourse and to dedicate them?

Soon after this, PETA attempted to purchase a brick to protest Petco’s treatment of animals (PETA and Petco have a long-standing dispute over this matter), but the first two attempts were denied. Undeterred, PETA succeeded on its third attempt by purchasing a brick which read “Break Open Your Cold Ones Toast The Padres Enjoy This Champion Organization.” When one reads the first letter of each word, it forms an acrostic which reads “BOYCOTT PETCO.” The Padres decided to leave the brick there, saying not enough people walking by would notice the secret meaning.

Above fact courtesy of Wikipedia (because I have an inquiring mind)..

But wait, that’s not all. There’s still some learning to do. I had never heard the word “acrostic” before so now I share that pronunciation and meaning with you (although I’m sure all my readers probably already know this):

Acrostic – a·cros·tic (əˈkrôstik,əˈkräs-) noun – a poem, word puzzle, or other composition in which certain letters in each line form a word or words.

This makes sense because the prefix is the same as that of “acronym,” which led me to research the difference between the two and I found that what PITA wrote wasn’t really an acrostic, but rather an acronym!

I hope I didn’t lose you to boredom. I know it’s a lot more fun and brainless to look at photos of grandkids, sunsets, lifeguards, orchids, floods, doves, steep hills covered with snow waiting for an avalanche, and squirrels. But don’t complain, I did give you a photo of food today.

No LA for Me

Above – Alo wanted Kando (& Ernie, of course) to nap with him. It doesn’t look like they’re getting much sleep, but isn’t this the cutest thing ever??

I’ve been fighting another cold and yesterday it started kicking into my chest. Later yesterday sinuses were achy and congestion thickening. I’m staying home and laying low today so I’ll hopefully feel better tomorrow for the “Big Day” with Maya and Sparty.

Out for a ride.

After the storm – towing the cars away that got twisted up in the garage like a washing machine. News 8 was there to document this.

Wednesday with Maya at ‘nastics.

Getting her foot tattooed after class.

It was rainy and cold so we decided to have hot chocolate and popcorn. Silliness abounds.

The shipment arrived!! Pedro Ximenez Gran Reserve cooking vinegar. Oh, the possibilities are endless, but we bought it for brussel sprouts. After checking online for other cooking options, there are a lot of good ideas. This stuff is the real deal!

Here’s a photo to show the final cooked brussel sprouts. They were delicious. It was an eclectic meal alongside a taco with left over grilled salmon and left over risotto. Yum!

This must mean rain!

Chinese Fire Drill!! (Is that politically incorrect?)

Hey, the light’s not going to get any greener!! hahaha. I guess you had to be there …

November Sunsets

Above – Momma’s  boy. Sparty was happy having lunch at Pizza Nova with Papa Bill and the rest of us yesterday. Most of all I think he was happy to be with his mommy.

There’s nothing like November sunsets!

Below – Saturday night’s sunset (top, from the front porch; bottom, a panorama from the deck upstairs)

Here’s the sunset from last night. I love the clouds in this one.

There’ll be more sunset photos. I never get tired of them. Never.

Dinner Saturday night. The leftovers turned into salmon tacos for dinner last night. Yummmmm.

Just another day in the life …

Above – Hogan on safari.

Lookie, Bear carried my socks downstairs for me! Eager to go on a walk. This is her guilty look.

Photo worthy …

Our SD Lifeguards practicing to save lives.

I had lunch with Bill yesterday at Atria. This tuna melt from the “anytime menu” was really good. I ate the whole thing.

Yum. German chocolate cake and strawberry ice cream.

More chest openings from the playground …

We heard from Ron last night from Cabo. They weren’t anticipating any winds there, only some high surf. So no worries.

Soup

Had fun with family & soup! The little ones sure enjoyed themselves. I suppose I should have/could have taken some photos, but I didn’t. I am glad to have the task of making baklava done though!

I’m not so sure about the OB Holiday Tree this year, but I do like the fact that this orchid likes the cold weather. It really is thriving. I know I posted a photo of it a couple weeks ago, but it’s got more blooms now than ever. We have a couple more orchids with buds waiting to bloom too.

Back to work tomorrow, but only for 2 days, then almost 2 weeks off.

Thanksgiving Photos

First of all, the apple pie Monette made was a MASTERPIECE. It was so beautiful, I hated to see it get cut into.

The walnut pie was really good too. So chocolaty!!

IMG_4648.JPG

I got some good pictures of the kids.

IMG_4632.JPG

Annie wanted in on the fun too.

IMG_4640.JPG

The yoga studio is always fun. This was the first time the boys asked if they could do yoga. In the past, they always asked to do karate.

IMG_4642.JPG

JR was the only one who was able to do the upside down version I demonstrated, but he said it was hard and kept asking me to hurry and take the picture so he could come down.

IMG_4646.JPG

I had to bribe them with pie to get them to stand still and not make faces for a “brothers” picture.

IMG_4655.JPG

Well, it worked on most of them.

Sparty, green beans & buds

Photo above stolen from Jen’s FB post.

I made these green beans last night using a recipe from Food.com. Not bad …

And lastly, this orchid is quite happy in the patio. I really enjoy taking a stroll out there & checking out all the new growth, buds & flowers.
