Tortoise, Squirrel, Dummy & Dogs

Above – Hogan… If it’s in the way, keep plugging away until it moves.

What’s that in the middle of the photo on the bush?

Why, it’s a little squirrel. (At the foot of Ladera on one of our morning walks)

Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!

More emergency crews utilizing the treachorous cliffs to dummy around.

Waiting for dinner one day.

… and then the next.

We had guests staying at our house last week. This was just after I told them the dogs don’t chew things. That bag was holding two pairs of yoga shorts. The bag didn’t move, but somehow it developed a hole in the bottom and the shorts found themselves on the floor … all wet. Bad dog.

And then the very next day, we came home to find a box of tissues chewed up. We must have gotten home in the nick of time before it got spread all over Bruce’s living room. Bad dog.

Only in OB …

Above & below – Playing (literally) on the drum this morning.

Moonset early yesterday morning. You can even see Saturn.

Debi Lilly about to bloom.

Bad news – Last Friday while I was enjoying lunch at Stella’s with my cousins someone scratched my bumper.

Good news – They left a note with a phone number.

Bad news – The phone number is bogus.

Here’s Chainee. We Skyped over the weekend. She’s living in an apartment with another girl, working at McDonald’s and just got her first 3 college credits!

Rancho’s – good Mexican food, inexpensive and it’s right down the street from us. We go there a lot and have noticed they have a wide array of table ware. Usually there are a couple different types on the table. The other night we sat at a table set for 4. Of those 4 place settings, not one of the knives was the same.

Not one of the forks was the same…

In fact, there wasn’t a match in the entire bunch. It’s these little things that keep me forever amazed and amused.

Only in OB – The man below is sporting his finest pajamas and tennis shoes as he walks past Shades.

Sand, Cars, Dummies & Food

Above & Below – The cutest thing ever.

If you’re not on FaceBook, then you missed seeing Alo’s car collection. Do not fear, here are a couple photos. If you were to ask Alo (probably also if you don’t ask him) he’d be happy to tell you the type and color of every one of them.

He spends much of his spare time (when he’s not reciting past and present U.S. presidents’ names) playing with these cars. In fact, he doesn’t usually go anywhere without toting one or more of these with him.

The other day on our walk we came across these dummies and other things laying around at Sunset Cliffs. We asked the guys dressed in what appeared to be military suits what they were doing. Come to find out, they’d traveled from Maryland to work with the Chula Vista Fire Department rescue team. We didn’t stick around to watch, but they were preparing to toss these dummies off the cliff and then repel to “rescue” them. See Bear was interested too.

Let’s talk food. Why? For no reason really. Just thought you’d like to see what I had for lunch yesterday – St. Germain Yogurt (organic and natural – plain flavor) with fresh organic strawberries, blackberries and raspberries with a Cosmic Cranberry Kombucha. This has become one of my favorite lunches, mainly because it’s easy and delicious.

Then there was dinner. Bruce does most of the shopping at OB People’s Food Co-Op and on his last trip be brought home from the bulk bin a baggie of “Organic Chili Carnival” which was a medley of red kidney beans, black beans, red chili beans, pinto beans, green lentils, red lentils and pearled barley. He claimed the tag on the bulk bin said “all you have to do is add 1 cup to 4 cups boiling water and soak, then cook for 2 ½ hours.” Nothing else. Supposedly this would turn into a delicious soup. Hmm, I thought while looking at the bag of only assorted dried beans. Doesn’t this need spices or something to make it taste good? No, he said. That’s all the tag said. Luckily he took a photo of the tag which I looked at and with my keen eyesight (glasses on, of course) found the part he didn’t read “Add spices, veggies, sauces ….” So, I added spices, veggies  (onions, carrots, celery, potatoes) and sauces and with some sharp cheddar cheese and Red Rooster Hot Sauce sprinkled on top, it was delicious! It wasn’t a chili, but more of a “mixed bean veggie soup.” I think I’ll have left overs for dinner tonight, and probably tomorrow night and the next night, and maybe even the next night too …

To Alo who may be checking in to see what I’ve blogged today: Hi little buddy!

Pairs

Above – Skyping Sunday night. We had a great chat with the WC Family. Everyone was smiles and both Alo and Kando were a joy. They’ll be coming to SD the last week of March, a perfect time for an 88th birthday party!

Below – Alo and Lilli interact. In yoga talk this is called Urdha Prasarita Padottanasana (upward extended feet/legs pose). Notice Ernie.

At the library.

Not that you need to be told this, but … in the bathroom …

Two pairs in one – I don’t think I shared this one yet. This was the day we brought the little big-headed Ziggy home.

For those of you who didn’t see this on FB, even though there are two dog beds next to each other, Ziggy couldn’t get to the same bed as Bear fast enough to sit quietly and wait for his breakfast.

When we were Skyping the WCF Sunday, Alo asked “What’s Ziggy doing?” I mention this because he’s never met Ziggy, and has really only seen him during Skypes or on my blog. He’s a pretty smart kid. Akuch told me Alo knows how to log onto the iPad and can get into my blog by himself. Evidently he does this every morning. So here’s a big HELLO to ALO. I love you and tell your baby brother I love him too. While you’re at it, you may as well tell your mom & dad too! I would be in trouble if I didn’t mention Pappa sends his love to all of you too.

What to look forward to? Yesterday afternoon we took Maya and Sparty to the Zoo and had a blast! I have plenty of photos to show for it.

Today I’m off to the real job at the real job site. Hopefully I’ll be out of there by 3pm so I can get home for a good practice before teaching tonight.

Erosion at Sunset Cliffs

Have you seen it yet? Here are some photos I took over the weekend. It’s really quite spectacular! This is at the foot of Adair Street, the first parking lot as you drive along the cliffs.

Check out the cracks in the pavement. More erosion getting ready to break away.

Here’s Ziggy “helping” me practice today after work. I guess he wasn’t getting enough attention… But in the end he won.

This is Major Tom to Ground Control

“Though I’m past one hundred thousand miles
I’m feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much she knows
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit’s dead, there’s something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you “Here am I floating round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there’s nothing I can do.”

 David Bowie – RIP

Breakfast yesterday at Shades with Maya and Sparty.

Poor Micky lost all his parts …

Trying to get them to sit still to get a photo …

Bolsters and blankets and Maya pretending to be asleep.

Sparty sleeping for reals. He was so tired. It didn’t take too long to get him to sleep.

Selfie.

After the rain Thursday we drove down Cape May to see how the properties were holding up. The water came up to the curb, but didn’t seem to bother anything else.

The corner of Cape May and Sunset Cliffs.

The entrance to North Beach (Dog Beach) well above curb level.

The apartment/condo at Abbott and Saratoga. This is after crews cleaned out the property from the rains two days before. The driveway has turned into a beach.

You can see how the utility door next to the stairs couldn’t withstand the water pressure.

Nice try, but I don’t think these sandbags helped much. Just sayin’ …

Bruce wanted me to get photos of this transformer box where the dirt washed out from under it. This has already been re-poured, hopefully correctly.

Rebel Rebel, you’ve torn your dress, Rebel Rebel, your face is a mess, Rebel Rebel, how could they know? Hot tramp, I love you so!

No LA for Me

Above – Alo wanted Kando (& Ernie, of course) to nap with him. It doesn’t look like they’re getting much sleep, but isn’t this the cutest thing ever??

I’ve been fighting another cold and yesterday it started kicking into my chest. Later yesterday sinuses were achy and congestion thickening. I’m staying home and laying low today so I’ll hopefully feel better tomorrow for the “Big Day” with Maya and Sparty.

Out for a ride.

After the storm – towing the cars away that got twisted up in the garage like a washing machine. News 8 was there to document this.

Wednesday with Maya at ‘nastics.

Getting her foot tattooed after class.

It was rainy and cold so we decided to have hot chocolate and popcorn. Silliness abounds.

The shipment arrived!! Pedro Ximenez Gran Reserve cooking vinegar. Oh, the possibilities are endless, but we bought it for brussel sprouts. After checking online for other cooking options, there are a lot of good ideas. This stuff is the real deal!

Here’s a photo to show the final cooked brussel sprouts. They were delicious. It was an eclectic meal alongside a taco with left over grilled salmon and left over risotto. Yum!

Clarity

Above –  Looking out off Ladera Street yesterday. Surfers were enjoying small, slow swells in a perfectly calm ocean.

Below – A closer view of how clear the ocean was yesterday. If we were to use the ocean on the first day of 2016 as a gauge to determine how the new year will be, we could perhaps say it will be a year of peace, stillness and clarity. Wouldn’t that be nice?

Calmness looking down at No Surf.

Oh no! What’s this? More photos from Jamie. A chilling contrast …

Holding true to Jamie’s words, there is a sun up there in her neck of the woods.

At Stone Brewery for dinner last night …

Akuch’s new boots …

Selfie – Bear cuddling with me and keeping me warm.

5 Days – The Countdown

Above – Poor baby. Sick.

Below – It’s all about Bearzie preparing for our morning walk. The ritual is I get her leash, she runs to the stairs and sits (im)patiently, I put on my socks and put on her leash, the whole time I’m getting slathered with smelly kisses. Getting her to sit still for this selfie was a challenge.

At the turnaround (Ladera Street), we saw this cute little squirrel sitting in the middle of this bush.

It was hiding in plain sight …

Things that Fly

There was some sort of activity… This helicopter was circling a small section of the coast.

Pelicans in formation, or slightly out of formation …

This is the same photo I posted yesterday but I decided to see what it would look like as a panorama. Downtown San Diego from Coasterra on Harbor Island. Beautiful!

Five more days before Christmas. We’re done shopping and ready for the grandkids!
