The Zoo (again)

Above – Before the bus ride. Yes, we actually paid (a LOT) for this photo, but the money goes to a good cause.

Below, on the bus ride. No, it’s not true that only fat people ride the bus. Amma and Pappa gladly gave in when Maya asked if we could ride the bus, and we even got to sit on the upper deck. We hadn’t taken the bus in a long time and I’m glad we did. We got to see many animals and it was very informative. The kids loved it.

Everyone needs to put their finger in the gorilla’s nose at some point in their life. We encourage it every time!

In the parking lot … “Look for the pink flamingo and the number 1.” There it is!!

For those of you who’ve asked how Evan’s doing, this morning he posted on his blog (first time in well over a year) with an update. Here’s the link if you’d like to check it out. If the link isn’t active, simply cut and paste it into your browser.

I had a great time with Sparty at music this morning. He’s doing really good there – dancing, clapping, playing instruments. Now blogging while Maya is at ‘nastics. We forgot to pick up her ‘nastics backpack when we picked her up from school so we ended up buying her yet another leotard. I’ve got to admit, she looks adorable in it! Here she is with Pappa on her drink break.

I think I need to keep a spare leotard in my car … Seriously.

A Day at the Zoo – Part 2

Above – Group photo

The Sparts had fun climbing all over and riding the pretend critters. They definitely made the trip to the Zoo more fun!

This time of year early in the morning on a weekday is a great time to head to the Zoo. There were hardly any visitors there, and we pretty much had the run of the place. We’ll definitely be taking him again. Next time, though, we may do it on a Friday afternoon when we can pick Maya up as a surprise and take both of them.

Last, and certainly not least, this morning Robb sent me this photo of Alo with his latest “prize” for pooping in the potty. Every time he poops in the potty he gets to choose from an array of brand new Matchbox cars, trucks, tractors, etc. By the time he turns 18 he’s going to need a warehouse to store his collection! He’s such a big boy. I can’t wait to see all of them again!!

From Robb: “4 days without a diaper. A couple accidents but we’re almost there. He had earned himself like 30 cars.”

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE being a grandma??

Today I’m getting some paperwork done at the house and then teaching two classes – one in La Mesa at 3:30 and one at home this evening at 6:30.

A Day at the Zoo – Part 1

Above – WATCH OUT!!! Geez, we turn our backs for 1 minute and the Sparts finds himself almost squished by an elephant!!

Monday was the perfect day for the Zoo. We got there a minute before it opened and Sparty lasted an hour and a half, which is pretty good considering, according to Jen, he’d already been up for an hour before we arrived at 5:50am. An hour and a half was just enough time to walk over to see the Muircats, Elephants, Camels, Jaguars and Lions.

There’s a lot of construction going on right now because of the off season. Pappa needs to know everything that’s going on.

That’s a big elephant AND some curly hair!

This jaguar cub sat calmly just 5 feet from us. Beautiful!

More photos for tomorrow.

Today – Music class with Sparty this morning and gymnastics this afternoon with Maya. I’m feeling tons better today but still not 100%.

I’ve got a few more I’ll post in the next few days. I’m sitting at the airport now waiting for my flight to SF for a 7-day Teachers’ Intensive with Manouso Manos. I’m meeting my friend, Lynn, in SF. Her flight from Asheville, NC arrives about 45 minutes after mine. I haven’t seen her in a couple months, so it should be fun.

Bruce, have fun with the little ones, and enjoy Alo this afternoon for me. Take lots of pictures so I can share with everyone.

Oh! & enjoy the rain!! It’s supposed to rain in SF too, but the weather report said So Cal is supposed to get the most of it. Drive safely everyone.

More Zoo – the playground

If you haven’t been to the Zoo lately, there are a lot of small areas where kids can play and climb on things. Maya insisted we stop here so she could burn up some of her energy.

One on One – The Zoo!

I took Maya to the Zoo yesterday afternoon. We saw the giraffes, rhinosaurus, zebras, flamingoes, koala bears, wallabies, camels & elephants, and she got to play at one of the playgrounds.

Here, this camel was laying right by the fence scratching its head and neck on the rock, so we got a really up-close view of it. It was pretty cool.

Having a picture taken with the gorilla is a must!

I tried to get Maya to stick her finger in the gorilla’s nose, but she refused. Go figure …

btw, I now have a “Zoo” category for my blog posts, which means there are lots more visits in the future, and I can’t wait until Alo’s a little older to take there!
