A day in the life of a property manager

Yesterday afternoon, we were relaxing, watching football, minding our own business, when Bruce got a call from one of the tenants who locked himself out of his house … Lunch this Thursday at Nati’s for the person who guesses the tenant’s name. 🙂

Here’s a song from our Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.

I think they’d been drinking a little too much out of that flask.

Oh what fun it is to play in the yoga studio after the Parade…

Everybody loves a Parade.

After Maya’s Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride in her stroller (at the hands of Amma) down to the parade, Maya “somehow” found herself in the middle of a group photo with the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, the oldest fraternal organization, which was founded in the United States in 1771 in Philadelphia. One of these men was nice enough to offer his flask to Maya, but I don’t think she wanted anything to do with it, or him!

Then it was time to enjoy the parade.

Sorry about this last photo. It was dark so I couldn’t tell if everyone was in the picture and I missed the two Monettes on the left, and Morgan on the right.

A big favorite – Sesame Street characters.

My favorite, of which I didn’t get a photo, was the “green flash” – a guy in a trench coat who would “flash” his coat open to expose a torso covered in green lights. He was clearly the perfect addition to a down-home OB Holiday Parade! Classic!

Back at home, there was more taking turns with Alo before he passed out.

The rest of us and Maya had pizza…

20131208-100421.jpg
And we finished it off with cake from the European Cake Gallery (sorry, no photo …). After it was all said and done, and the threat of rain dwindled, I think everyone had a great parade experience!

Tune in again tomorrow for pictures of how eight kids, all under 10, stayed entertained while waiting for pizza to arrive.

Throwback Thursday

The year … (I’m going to guess) 1978 …

Can you guess who this is?

I’ll give you a hint… This little girl did not grow up in California.

Coffee and Staples

First… Coffee & a plug for “Jump Start Espresso,” the BEST coffee in OB – on Bacon between Voltaire and West Pt. Loma Avenue.

Dr. Freeman was very pleased with Bruce’s progress, and he should be. Bruce has been working really hard to gain mobility. His next doctor visit is scheduled for 4 weeks, and he’s being changed from in-home to out-patient physical therapy.

I think this is cool

The roots of this ficus tree on the corner of Del Mar & Venice are so cool. I find it amazing how they are so big & high above the ground, but don’t tear up the street. I like the “rock” affect – the owner filled in the space between the roots with rocks. I just think it’s cool, that’s all. If you haven’t seen it, drive or walk by & check it out because it’s much better in person.

OB Locals

This morning we ran into Johnny Longway & his son, Jonathan. Johnny’s one of my best friends from school’s (Karin, aka KJ, who now lives in New Zealand) little brother.

Another Low Tide

The low this morning at 5:01am was 1.90 low. These pictures were taken about 6am, starting from Garbage to the south to just north of No Surf. It was the lowest I think I’ve ever seen. It would’ve been a great day to play hooky & take a walk at the tide pools.

Boxing at the OB Street Fair

This is the best thing that’s happened to the OB Street Fair – a local SD boxing event. When I arrived with one of my students, Chris, Ron & Bruce had a ringside table. We arrived just in time to see one of our local bums (who we see around …) standing in the middle of the ring with a microphone in his hand. I wondered… “what the heck is he doing in the middle of the ring with a microphone in his hand????” Shortly thereafter he announced he was going to sing the National Anthem. Yikes, I thought. Then he began singing. Oh wow. Although he didn’t really get all the words right (who ever does?), it was fantastic. Really. I was stunned. Then, the boxing began. There were 3 matches. The older boys (16, I think) boxed three 3-minute rounds. The younger boys (12 yrs old) boxed three 2-minute rounds. These boys were disciplined, in shape, focused, and respectful. All the boys were light on their feet and fast, respecting the rules, their coaches, the referee and each other. I took a couple pictures, but the one that follows is the only picture that didn’t turn out blurry – I told you they were fast on their feet…20130623-083058.jpg
