Happy Birthday to Jen!

Above – Throwback photo from Maya’s 2nd Birthday. I figured throwing back would be a good idea on this BIG birthday! I hope you have a great day, Jen.

There was a big happening on my Monday morning walk at the foot of Orchard. I couldn’t find anything online as to why three news crews, one police car and two City workers were hanging around, so I did some sleuthing of my own.

I found this interesting article on the OB Rag website from September 2, 2015 that might explain why one of the City workers was digging around on the side of the bluff. He was probably attempting to block the cave so some derelict doesn’t go getting him- or herself killed. Click on link or cut and paste into your browser: http://obrag.org/?p=98592#.ViVKMdZX9FI

Bear and I quickly became bored and moved on to our favorite private beach to take advantage of some photo ops. That is, after she rolled in a pile of dirty, stinky seaweed covered with flies near an old washed up lobster trap. Yuck!

I love the clouds and ocean contrast in this first photo.

Bear didn’t seem to mind the smell. In fact, I think she was quite proud of herself!

Later, after meeting up with Bruce … A bird’s eye view.

Trying to catch the photo during mid spray was tricky until I decided to hold my finger down on the button. See, I’m smarter than the camera!

The Martian – Thumbs up.

Matt Damon – Thumbs up.

Cinepolos Luxury Theater Del Mar – Thumbs up. Big, roomy, cozy recliners & good customer service, delivering our XL, extra buttery popcorn directly to our seats.

It’s been a long time since we’ve gone to a movie. I don’t even remember when or what movie we last went to last. I read the book (great read!) so I was interested in how this could be made into a movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

The last few days

Above – Hogan enjoys his breakfast of romaine, broccoli and hibiscus flowers. He didn’t eat the yellow flowers …

My morning walk yesterday – private beach and lifeguard practice.

Sparty waiting for Amma to help get his shoes off for music class. Class went great this week, btw.

Basil flowers. It’s probably not a good idea to let herbs flower, but aren’t they pretty?

I woke up to a text that our flight was cancelled, so I scrambled and got us on the next flight out, only an hour later. We’ll be off to Oakland later today to see the fam!! Alo. New baby Kando. Oh… & Robb & Akuch too.

Maya – First Day of School

A big day indeed!

And …

You know you live in OB when …

This all started around 3:30am with blood curdling screams from up the street, followed by a woman running down and into a house across the street from us.

Even though I was rudely awakened at an ungodly hour, I still had a nice walk this morning – proof:

And now off to work.

Jamie arrives tomorrow!

2015 OB Street Fair

Chili Cook-Off – I wonder if this is the same as the toilet-on-wheels riding, paper reading person float in the last Holiday Parade.

Maya didn’t want anything to do with the mime. Sparty, on the other hand …

Super Skaters!

Num Num, Corndog!

I ran into a couple friends from high school.

Linda (Haselton) Burke

Andy LeBaron

After the Street Fair we went to the Kids Fair at Liberty Station.

Maya got to meet Cinderella, and also got a hug!

Then some dress-up.

What a happy girl!

It was a long day!

A good morning

The rose was along our walk this morning.

Luckily for Bear, no other dogs were at our private beach so …

Bear ended up with a sandy tongue & a bad case of Ass Dragon on the way back up the hill.

In bloom – front yard.

In bloom – patio (a Debi Lilly Nino’s daughter, Gina gave us a couple years ago)

The babies are still in the nest, but from my calculations today is the day they should begin their next journey.  Will keep you posted.

It Never Rains in California

I surprised when I woke up this morning to see that according to the weather channel there was a 100% chance of rain.  I’ve never seen 100% chance of rain before.

But then a while later when I checked again we had two hours coming up with 100% chance of rain!
Then I checked even later to find we had four continuous hours of rain to look forward to.  It would be about time that I would imagine you might be thinking I should get a life …
From looks of Maya’s photo above, she doesn’t seem to be complaining!

Have a wet one!!

Bougainvillea

I’m not a huge fan of bougainvillea, but last week on one of my walks, I passed this beautifully blooming hedge. I’m sure it won’t be so beautiful when someone is having to clean up the mess when the flowers all fall off, but in the meantime, I certainly enjoyed them.

Here, just a couple of Maya’s outfits – from pool cleaning wear to blizzard clothing, all in the same day!

HUH?

This sign is posted next to the pool at the hotel where I’m staying. I was wondering … if I want to go for a swim, do you think I’d have to sign a waiver?

Single Post for the Weekend –

The hotel where I’m staying in Beverly Hills, the Beverly Laurel Hotel, is kinda cheesy – you have to pay for internet, they don’t have coffee makers in the rooms & they don’t have room service. I wanted a glass of wine, so with iPad and earbuds in tow, I walked down to a cute little corner diner right next door & I’m having a glass of wine while posting

Yesterday I got an award for working at PMB for 10 years. They had a party so I thought I should attend. Good thing I did because food was catered by Chipotle and it was really good, AND there was cake!

Afterwards I went home and Akuch was just finishing up feeding Alo. She wasn’t gone 10 minutes before he fell asleep in my arms.

20140405-192247.jpg
He passed out, but only for about 35 minutes.

20140405-200017.jpg
Then we went for a walk. I think Alo wants to be a lifeguard when he grows up.

20140405-200148.jpg
And we walked along the pier.

20140405-200254.jpg
We saw a one-footed seagull.

20140405-200451.jpg
That’s when Alo thought maybe he’d rather work in sea life rescue.

One more photo before we headed back up the hill.

Lastly, Maya reading with Pappa.

20140405-201430.jpg
Pappa took Maya to the Zoo Friday morning and took lots of pictures of her with the goats at the petting corral. Perhaps one day he’ll share those with me so I can share them on my blog… ???

Hopefully that was enough pictures to make up for only one post over the weekend.

Seahorse, beach & book

Such a big boy riding the seahorse at the park!

Below, Maya spends time with Pappa at the beach.

And Alo reads to his Amma:

Evan is out of the office today, having a biopsy on his lung, a procedure called Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) – biopsy of mediastinal lymph notes. Under the same local, he’ll have another procedure that may enable him to gain his voice back, at least temporarily.

Score!!

Last week while sitting at the island in the kitchen, I glanced up at the window & saw a huge fountain of water shooting up in the air at the foot of Santa Cruz. It was so spectacular I had to run upstairs, get the “good camera,” switch to the telescopic lens and take pictures (hence, the Score!). The one posted below was the best photo.

20140227-082539.jpg
The water continued spouting up at this magnitude for at least 15 minutes. So much for the drought!!

The big news today is the rain we’re supposed to be getting. I hope it doesn’t affect my trip to SF tomorrow morning.

This morning – planning a short trip to the Zoo in the rain with little Maya, then lunch with Bill – Nati’s @ 11:30.

Joanne, this one’s for you. Jen, in her own words “in my finest hour” …
