Peek A Boo

Photo above taken yesterday.

We haven’t see the mom and dad doves since Saturday and were worried they abandoned their babies.  After doing a little research, I found the following:

“The babies grow rapidly and leave the nest at 11 or 12 days old. No empty nest syndrome here; if the babies won’t leave by day 13, the parents will refuse to come to the nest to feed them. They wait patiently on a nearby branch until the kids get hungry enough to flutter down to the ground.”

This makes sense since there have been two doves hanging out on the wire in front of our house.  We think it’s mom & dad dove.

This morning it looks like maybe there’s only one baby in the nest. I’ll get out there after my class this morning with my selfie stick & capture another photo to see what’s in there.

We hope a baby doesn’t land on the patio for Bear to find …

House Guests

When Bruce was watering last week he noticed some vagabonds. We decided to welcome them as long as they’d like to stay. Today, selfie stick in hand, I was able to capture a family moment.

According to “Wild Bird Watching” website, mourning doves frequently nest in hanging plants, and have been known to use the same nest for 5 sets of eggs in a single season (April – July, but could go as late as October in some regions). The nests never go unwatched. The male takes the daytime shift, and the female takes the evening shift. Who knows what the male is up to all night …

I can’t tell from the photo if these are 2 adults, or whether there are eggs or babies. From the laundry room window sometimes we can see what looks like little fuzzy heads, but it’s hard to tell because we don’t want to get too close for fear we may scare them away.

I thought the grandkids, in particular, might like to see this photo of our new house guests.

I apologize for the Alo ABC YouTube video in my last post not being the correct video. Although it was really cute, I mis-named it (yes, it’s hard to believe, but I made an error). Here’s the real ABC video.

ABCs

Another video from our Skype call last week.  I didn’t start the video until after Alo started his ABCs, but he got through the the whole alphabet.

Here’re some photos of Bear’s private beach.

1st week of retirement

While walking Bear I came across this UFO and was able to get up close for a photo of the alien on board.

Morning walks to the cliffs.  Bear gets to run free at one of the private beaches.

We’ve had some beautiful mornings.

More free time.

During our Sunday Skype call, in between Alo’s jumping on the bed & being silly, he sat still just long enough to sing to us.

Walnut Creek Wine & Art Festival. Here’s Jr. Police Officer Alo.  If you look closely you’ll see  he has a badge. He takes his job very seriously.

Akuch & Alo riding the train at the festival.

The baby in the belly is growing growing growing!!

Selfebration

i figured since it’s my last official day at work, I’d treat myself and go on a field trip to Starbucks. I am now enjoying a little private selfebration at my desk.

I probably should have brought my new selfie stick (a gift from self) & broken it in. But I’ll have plenty of time for the selfie stick.

The cherry orange scone from Starbucks is really good, btw.

Note to KJ: It was great catching up with you again. It’s always nice to spend time with an old/young friend! Safe travels, stay in touch, and give Tevor our best.

The selfie stick would have come in handy for that photo!

Maya rode her scooter to the park, but got tired on the way back so I carried her on my shoulders the whole way up the hill!

Cape May – Finished!

I sent Celso photos Friday morning and he dropped by, looked at the property & posted it for rent that day. He showed it to two families yesterday, and it looks like we might already have a serious renter! We use Celso (3 Guys Properties) to locate a renter. They do the credit check, get the lease signed and then turn it over to us to manage.

I was able to to capture “after” photos matching up to the before photos, but I didn’t always take identical “during” photos.

Four months of hard work, every day. I think Bruce may have taken only a couple Sundays off during this time. I can’t even begin to say all the work he did – from digging footings, to pouring concrete, to doing electrical, to (what he does best) supervising, among tons of other things.

Cyndy came in and did the finishing work – trim, crown moulding, IDEAS!, paint, more ideas, crawling in the small places to do finishing work.

All there is left to do now is for Bruce to clean out the garage (aka his office), which will most likely remain the property management storage and workspace.

I’ve got more photos of the bathroom, laundry room and front bedroom I’ll post in the next day or two. I posted kitchen and loft photos already.

Here’s a panoramic view of the kitchen. It looks a little warped because of the nature of the photo, but you can see in one photo all the cabinets and built-ins.

Whew! Next project?  🙂

Lastly, HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to my mom and all the moms out there reading my blog today, all one or two of you!  Haha.
