Go Padres

Well, they didn’t do very well. Actually, they didn’t do well at all considering the Brewers downed the Padres 10 – 1. Ugh!

But did we have fun! YES! & we have pictures to show for it.

Our new best friends who sat behind us asked for a photo with us. It must’ve been because we were the only fans left in the stands after the game was over.

Catching up

Alo’s walking now, at least when he wants to. He’s still got that separation anxiety with something to hold onto. Robb & Akuch sent me the photo above when I was in Lake Arrowhead.

Bruce took Maya to the beach Thursday and sent me these photos.

I got home mid-afternoon Friday, just in time to play a little and rock Alo to sleep (a very easy task). When he woke up, we spent some quality time out on the grass and took some selfies.

Yesterday afternoon Bruce and I spent about 4 hours cleaning the basement. I went through most of the non-paperwork/non-photos boxes from Billi’s house. It feels so good to be done with that portion of the boxes, and to have obtained back a big chunk of spare space.

This morning Robb sent me this photo of Alo at the park in his new little sandals.

Lots of pictures today to make up for no grandkid photos all week. Now I need some of Sparty …

Sanskrit Script

One of the least mental things we’ve done here is to learn Sanskrit script and the sounds associated with each character. Not that this is an easy thing to learn, but we’re having a lot of fun learning it. The picture above is my first attempt at doing this.

We’ve spent many hours in the auditorium chanting, learning philosophy, and doing Asana (poses) and Pranayama (breath control).

Friday’s schedule ends at noon, and I’m looking forward to getting home and putting into practice all that I’ve learned.

Another highlight of my week is that my cottage is only about 50 feet from the stable where there are two horses and a tackle shed nearby with carrots, and I’ve been able to feed them. The horse on the right is on top of things. He moves quickly to the gate when someone approaches with carrots. The horse on the left is a little more shy and it takes some coaxing (but not a lot) for him to come out of his shelter. They like the carrots.

I’ve been so busy I only realized tonight that I missed Nati’s with Bill, and wondered if anyone organized it???

More from Lake Arrowhead

I have this little cabin all to myself (not counting the spiders). The inside is small, but I don’t have to share the bed with any dogs.

IMG_8018.JPG
They’re feeding us really good here. I’m worried I’m going to come home 5 lbs heavier than I left. They’re not used to cooking for a bunch of vegetarians, so most of the meals are heavy carbohydrates. This was one of my lunches – baked potato with vegetarian chili & cornbread.

IMG_8023.JPG
This was by far the best dinner we’ve had – salad, orange rice with stir fry veggies and spring rolls.

IMG_8026.JPG
Today I got tricked into eating a beet, which I thought it was a purple fingerling potato…

Sunday night around 10 pm we had an earthquake centered near Big Bear (which is close), and today it rained, complete with thunder and a power outage.

It’s been quite a week so far. We found out Monday that Guruji was in the hospital, not doing well, and that his family had been called. We spent a great deal of time chanting on his behalf. Yesterday, a portion of our workshop was set aside to do some more chants. We finished at 2:45 pm our time, and immediately following our session, we learned that Guruji passed away at 3:15 am Pune time. Coincidentally, this was the exact time we completed our chanting.

These words were sent to the press yesterday from Geetaji, Guruji’s daughter:

“Only his body has ended. One person’s efforts from inside out changed the acceptance of yoga throughout the world. Nothing was hidden, from the time he began to practice, to his illness and death. Even last night he was telling Abhijata, “I have shown you all these things, now realize them for yourself.” What he has given cannot be encompassed by words. If a disciple is more developed, then that person will understand. What can be said in words is that he was precious to us.” (Abhijata is Guruji’s granddaughter)

He has written many books and his teachings have touched people of all ages, races and gender around the world. There was a recent effort to have him nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

When I was in India, Guruji was 95 and still actively practicing and (indirectly) teaching yoga daily, always present in the practice room.

I am grateful for the many blessings I’ve received through Guruji’s teachings.

Sri B.K.S. Iyengar (1918 – 2014)

Sri B.K.S. Iyengar, fondly known as Guruji, passed away at 3:15 am in Pune, India August 20, 2014. He was 96.

I feel so fortunate to be in Lake Arrowhead among my peers in the Iyengar Community at this time.

Lake Arrowhead – Day 1

It’s a busy schedule today:

5 am – philosophy
7 am – breakfast
7:30 am – philosophy
10 am – asana (poses) practice
noon – lunch
2 pm – philosophy
6 pm – dinner
7 pm – restorative asana practice

I have only 8 minutes to finish this post before I have to get back for the 10 am asana practice.

I’m working on getting the internet to work quickly enough to move photos through the cloud from my phone to the iPad, and then uploading to the blog in order to publish. I’m beginning to think wifi was better in India!

I’ll spend more time this evening posting some pictures and making sure they get published.

Impromptu babysitting

Ron and Jen dropped the little ones off last night so they could go out on a date.

Sparty arrived fed and happy.

I really like that Maya lets me take pictures of her now … now that she realizes the pictures are FUN to look at!! Notice the dogs want to know and be in the middle of everything she’s up to.

I saved this YouTube video for last. Sparty is well entertained in his bouncy seat.

Those are some chunky legs!!

I’ll be heading to Lake Arrowhead this afternoon for a yoga philosophy and asana (poses) retreat, returning Friday afternoon.

Note to Robb & Akuch: Pappa will be on hand for watching Alo Friday in my absence. There’s no show at the Pt. Loma Library this week, so check with Pappa for a Nati’s rendezvous on Thursday.

Another Friday with Alo

First on the agenda… a nap. The nap normally occurs after I wear him out, but it looks like maybe Akuch wore him out before I could get my hands on him.

Then some selfies at the park.

And before Robb got here to pick him up he had a little time in the yard.

Words well spoken:

Hi (with a hand wave) – which he’ll say readily when he first shows up

Thank you – which he says whenever he is given something, and when he gives you something

Whassat?? – whenever he hears something or whenever he feels like it

Boo – when playing peek-a-boo, a game he’ll instigate on his own

Bye (with a hand wave) – when he’s leaving, or when someone else leaves, including Mommy & Daddy, without crying 🙂

Oh, & he will (attempt to) sing along to the “Hello to you” song.

Today, another BIG Saturday morning class at the house – 8 students!

Puppet Show

Alo and Maya had a great time at the puppet show yesterday. It was the last event of the summer for the Pt. Loma Library. Maya and Alo also enjoyed each other!

This lady did a fantastic job of keeping her show moving, synchronized to sometimes foot-stomping, hand clapping music with a flying pig, a horse trotting, a muscleman doing aerobics, a trapeze artist, and more. I sat on the floor with the kids to get a better view.

IMG_0276.JPG
All the kids there were pretty good, sitting still and watching the 30-minute show. At one time, the music got hoppin’ and Maya got to dancing!

It was great fun for all of us.
